The Black Dog in Belmont Reopens Following £230,000 Refurbishment
The Black Dog, a much-loved country pub nestled in the heart of Belmont, has reopened its doors following a stunning £230,000 refurbishment.
Maintaining its historic charm, the newly renovated Black Dog blends traditional character with modern comfort. Original features such as the pub’s old magistrate’s bench have been thoughtfully retained – now transformed into unique seating that honours the building’s past as a local courthouse.
A Fresh Look but keeping to heritage
The refurbishment has introduced a brand-new bar area, two bars is better than one right? What was once a dedicated dining room now offers a more relaxed, informal atmosphere, allowing guests to enjoy a drink or a hearty meal throughout the pub – dogs welcome, of course.
“We really wanted to open up the space and make it more inviting,” said landlady Elaine Brooks. “The Black Dog has always had a lovely cottage feel, but there wasn’t a bar in the dining room. Adding one in has completely transformed the space – it’s lighter, more open, and far more sociable.”
With the addition of patio windows and four Juliet balconies, visitors can now soak up the spectacular countryside views that Belmont is famous for, all while enjoying a pint of award-winning Joseph Holt ale.
For Locals, Walkers, and Four-Legged Friends
The Black Dog has long been a favourite among walkers, cyclists, and dog lovers exploring the West Pennine Moors. In a nod to its canine clientele, the pub has launched a special Doggie Sunday Roast, so beloved pets can tuck in alongside their owners.
“We’ve always welcomed dogs, and now they can enjoy a proper Sunday dinner too,” said Elaine. “It’s just one more reason to make a day of it at the Black Dog.”
A Commitment to Community
Marc Broady, Area Manager for Joseph Holt, said: “The feedback from locals and visitors has been overwhelmingly positive. At a time when the hospitality industry is facing real challenges, we’re proud to continue investing in pubs like The Black Dog – venues that sit at the heart of their communities.”
With its warm welcome, quality food and drink, and stunning setting, The Black Dog is once again ready to serve as a hub for locals and a destination for visitors from across Lancashire and beyond.
