White Lion
The White Lion in Westhoughton is a 200 year old, grade-II listed building, originally used as Westhoughton’s post office. Situated on the corner of market street in the village centre, our pub is noted as a historical landmark, having been licensed since the early 19th century and continuing to serve award winning ales and lagers by Joseph Holt today.
A plaque erected on the pub in 2012 marked the bi-centenary of the burning of the mill by the Luddites in 1812 – the crime for which was plotted in the exact same pub, prior to Joseph Holt owning the pub. The White Lion is also listed as one of the 21 most fascinating places in England by Historic England in 2016 for it’s rich heritage and unaltered character since 1945.
The White Lion with its colourful past now focuses on giving you access to all major sports matches along with regular weekend entertainment including karaoke and regular DJ’s. We’re also dog friendly too, so do bring your companions with you.
