XS Manchester's Comedian of the Year

XS MCR Comedy Final

After 4 weeks of heats and 24 contestants!!! The search for Manchester’s Comedian of The Year 2016 came to an end.  The four heats where held at four different Holt pubs; The Ape and Apple, The Spread Eagle, The Old Monkey and The Railway Inn. The final was held on Wednesday 19th October and returned to The Spread Eagle Chorlton, home to our most ruthless judge, Bess.

The comedians who each made it through the four heats stepped up to the plate once again, along with 3 wild cards that were selected by each of the judges for a second chance at the big time. Each comedian had 10 minutes to impress the judges; Justin Lee Collins (XS radio presenter and professional comedian) Lee Martin (Founder and Director of comedy  talent agency The Gag Reflex) and, of course, our very own Bess, Manageress of The Spread Eagle (and as mentioned earlier by far the most ruthless of all the judges).

Each comedian took to the stage, all hoping to win the £500 cash price along with the opportunity to co-present a show on XS Manchester radio station. Would the crowd laugh? Fall flat? Hecklers? We had it all and the night was ram packed with people looking to be entertained by our top picks from the search.

But of course there can be only one winner. In third place Theresa Farlow, second place John Porter and the all-important ‘bow down and show your respect’ first place winner went to (drum roll please) Dawn Rigby who came through heat 4 at The Railway Inn as a wild card entrant!!

The whole search came with surprises, gasps, shocked faces but a whole lotta laughs. Join us again next year for the 2017 search!
